OUR FUTURE STORY

“OK—check it off the list and move on to the next item, whatever it may be.”
“Whoa!  Not so fast—this is not the end; this is the beginning.”
“No way—it’s a wrap.  Some 92% of the respondents deemed the Future Story as presented May 23, 2010, as a reasonable representation of God’s will for our Church—good enough for me.”
“But what about all the folks in the congregation who were not present for the showing?  Some of them have viewed it on our web-site, and we’ll also have a couple of viewings in Fellowship Hall during June (dates to be announced).  But that’s still not enough.”
“Why not?  Seems done to me.”
“Don’t you get it?  This is NOT a story to go on a shelf in our library to gather dust.  It’s an invitation, a rallying cry to people of passion to step forward and put their passion into action!  Now that the story has been written…it has to be enacted, has to come to fruition.  ”
“You mean…I have to DO something?”
“YOU do!  I do!  WE all do!  The vignettes in the video simply presented visions of what MAY happen.  The real point of the video is that the Future Story presents each of us with the opportunity to seek and find our niche of service, to write our chapter in the story, to bring the teachings of Jesus alive in our community.  Me?  I want to help define the role of the Ministry Village.  What’s your passion?”
“Well…I never thought about it.  So, coming to church and meeting my pledge is not enough?  Won’t do?  I need actively to engage in the actual work of the church, the work of Jesus?”
“Yeah…really, you do.  And the Future Story gives you the opportunity.”
“So what do I need to do?”
“Get engaged.  Why not search your soul for your area of passion, your area for engagement…and mail or call them for an opportunity for service?”
“You know…I will, I will.  It’s time I got out of the pew and into the real work of Jesus in our world.”
Come find your place in the story.
